Welcome To Explore Investment

Welcome to ExploreInvestment.com. This website is a free resource giving information on many aspects of investment, such as the stock market, asset management, online investment, forex (currency) markets and much more. Below are brief explanations of the main investment types we currently cover:

Stock Market - This is a public entity which enables the trading of company's stocks ('shares') at an agreed price. Investment in the stock market involves buying a number of a public company's shares with the view that their value appreciates.

Asset Management - also known as investment management - involves the professional management of various securities (such as shares and bonds) and assets (e.g. real estate) such that particular investment goals are met.

Online Investing - as the name suggests - involves allowing people to place and manage various investments over the internet. Before the internet become popular, investment brokers (such as stock brokers) were needed for people to place an investment.

Forex Investment is where currency is bought, traded and sold on the Forex markets, naturally with a view for the investor to make a profit. For example, this could involve a British investor purchasing $10,000 USD for £7,000, in the hope that the USD's value rises against the British GBP (and then if the USD does get stronger, that $10,000 might then be worth £8,000 - thus meaning a profit of £1,000 GBP).

Retirement Investing is increasingly important especially considering how many Government's pensions are in a bad shape. Retirement investment therefore involves investing in various schemes so that an individual or couple will have enough to live on once they retire.

Real Estate Investment is where property (or properties) are purchased and then either resold or rented out. This might require the purchased property to be refurbished before a return can be seen, although real estate is nonetheless an ever-present investment option.

Mutual Funds is where multiple people pool funds together and place an investment with the pooled money. This is usually done on a professional basis, where an investment company pools together money from a number of its customers and then invests it accordingly.

Commodities are things such as gold, silver and oil. Commoditiy investment is therefore buying a commodity and then trading or selling it in the future at a great price, thus making a profit.

Offshore Investing is where money is kept in a jurisdiction other than one's country of origin/residence. Such jurisdictions are usually countries with low tax rates, known as 'tax havens'.

General Tips - This category is for general tips and investment ideas/strategies which don't necessarily fit into any of the above categories (or might fit into more than one of the above).

What Is 'Investment'?

Broadly speaking, investment involves putting money into a resource (such as a commodity or stock/share) with the view to make a profit. The more technical definition of investment is the commitment of money and/or assets to purchase financial instruments or other types of assets in order to gain a positive rate of return on money/capital employed, such as in the form of interest (dividends) or appreciation of asset value (capital gains).

So for example, someone investing $1,000 in a particular stock (share) will do so in the hope that the share value will rise, giving a return on the investment (i.e a positive return on the money employed).
